Many high school students have a concern for the future, whether it is where they are going to go to college, what job they will have, or how they will earn some money during the summer. The AHS Job Fair is meant to help answer some of these questions and bring more peace to the mind of the average high school student.
“I came [to the Job Fair] to look at job possibilities for the summer as well as long term careers,” junior Annie Rutherford said.
When students walked into the upstairs gym they could choose what booth to visit so that they could gain information about a particular job. If they were looking for a summer job, some of the options to choose from included lifeguarding, nursing, or working at an AMC movie theater.
“I really want to be a lifeguard or work at the movie theater this summer to have job experience,” freshman Alexia Sung said.
Other students, like sophomore Alexis Garretson, came to the job fair to seek out information about joining the military after high school. “I want to make sure I know what I’m doing when I have to make the decision to join or not. But I also came to turn in my lifeguard application to NVPools so that I can have a summer job,” Garretson said.
Other tables that were set up in the gym included Northern Virginia Community College and the Art Institute, for the students who are not quite sure where they want to go after high school.
Along with information, many of the booths gave out brochures, pamphlets, pens, buttons and key chains to those who came and asked questions.
“The movie theater table was my favorite because it sounds like a fun place to work and a good first job. Plus they gave me a free button,” junior Brandon Marwah said.
