Relaxing with friends after school, enjoying refreshments and experiencing music and literature is an easy way to enjoy an afternoon for most students. Luckily, the AHS literary magazine, The Filament, holds coffeehouses regularly, where students can experience everything described. The upcoming coffeehouse will be held on March 16 and promises to be a good time.
The Filament is holding auditions for the coffeehouse on March 9 and accepts any type of performing art, including acting, singing, music and reading of poetry or prose.
“People should come because it is a lot of fun, everyone usually has a good time and we get good performers,” senior Jessie Diroll, co-literary editor, said. If the draw of the performers is not enough, the refreshments might pull some students in as well. The $3 door charge covers unlimited coffee and baked goods are sold that have been donated by Filament members for reasonable prices. All proceeds form this event will go to The Filament.
“I think it’s a good idea because students have a lot of talent here and it needs to be showcased,” sophomore Abbey Barnes said. Some English teachers also offer extra credit to students who attend.
“I think [the coffeehouses] are beneficial to the school and community because they allow expressive poetry and allow deeply connected people to openly relate to each other,” sophomore Madeline de Mello said. “They ensure a tranquil and unifying bond between students. Plus, coffee is served, so that’s a bonus.”
This coffeehouse, which is the second and final one of the year, is fast approaching and is a positive way for any students interested in literature or music to have fun.
