Escorts will parade their partners’ physiques, smarts, and know-how at a school-sponsored event this February. But the people who will be ‘showing a little leg’ are Mr. Annandale contestants; males only.
“Once you sign this contract, there is no going back,” senior Grace Franjie, SGA president, said at the Feb. 7 mandatory interest meeting for the Mr. Annandale competition.
The Mr. Annandale event was begun two years ago when leadership and marketing students held a spirit discussion on how to get the boys at AHS more included in school events. A proposal was then sent to the administration, which approved it.
“I’m participating because it shows good school spirit and it’ll be fun,” junior Ahmed Bile said.
Eligibility requirements for the contest include gender as well as grade level: only male juniors and seniors may compete.
“If some of the juniors want to compete the next year, especially if they don’t win, they are able to come out with more confidence and make the competition that much better,” Franjie said of the change from the first-year, seniors-only idea.
The events of the competition will include an introduction ceremony, questionnaire, a talent portion and a legs/muscles display.
“The rules depend on the crowd’s reaction. The winner of Mr. Legs may not have the best legs, because the judging is also based on presentation and creativity,” Franjie said.
Although all competitors must have an escort for the introduction ceremony, which may include tux and dress rentals, swimwear is not required for the muscle portion of the contest.
“I think I’ll win Mr. Talent,” Bile, who wishes to keep his talent a secret, said.
The other winning categories will include Mr. Legs, Mr. Elegant, Mr. Spirit, Mr. Muscle and Mr. Annandale; the winner of the most sub-categories.
Although exceptions were made for students who were unable to attend the interest meeting, all commitment forms were due Feb. 8.
Concerns and approvals meetings will take place on Feb. 15 and 16 and a full dress rehearsal will be on Feb. 22. Leadership and marketing students will be available for questions and paperwork at the back tables in all lunches for the first ten minutes of the lunch period.
The contest will take place on Feb. 25. Tickets will be sold for $5 Monday through Friday the week of the contest. Tickets will be available at lunches Feb. 24 and Feb. 25, but will not be sold at the door.
Leadership coordinators Grace Franjie, Olivia Franjie, Tatiana Niang and Kelly Goodison encourage students to attend the event. There is a possibility for a Clausen Hall activity after the contest for audience members.

I think it gave a lot of good information that’ll make students want to attend the event.
