For their last time, the senior class of 2011 dominated the junior class of 2012 at this year’s powderpuff game that occurred Oct. 13. It was an intense game, and the proud seniors won by one touchdown.
“The girls worked hard and now they have the experience so next year they will be prepared and win,” said junior coach Paul Singh.
The first half was nerve-wrecking and senior Tania Ghods scored the first touchdown. During halftime, the crowd was entertained by five senior boys performing a ridiculous cheer routine followed by one junior boy in a cheer uniform cheering for the juniors. He was joined by a couple more juniors as they helped to hoist him up. It resulted in the senior and junior boys chasing after each other off the field as the crowd roared with laughter at the spectacle and even a few snapped pictures. The humor faded as the players took back the field for the last half of the game. The sun began to set and players got into position. The nervous excitement continued, and quarterback Justine Niner scored a touchdown for the juniors. The seniors came out victorious, 26-18.
“Even though we lost by one touchdown, we still had fun playing,” said junior Marwa Abdelaziz. ”If I was a little quicker (as safety), I could’ve prevented Tania Ghods from making the first touchdown. We practiced hard and it was a fair game.”
The seniors rushed the field as they cheered for their win. Senior quarterback Diana Herring said, “The seniors were awesome and juniors were not. We are the i11est!”
While the seniors were ecstatic about their win, the juniors still have next year to look forward to.
“Even though seniors won, the juniors did play a tough game and none of us hung our heads low,” said junior Marissa Uriarte. “We remained proud and anxious for next years game.”
