Outside the sun is shining, but students stay indoors to catch up on homework and projects for the quarter. “This week I’ve had four projects,” said sophomore Colleen Salpini, “It’s annoying how there are so many papers due at the end of the quarter.” Friday, April 9 marks the last day of third quarter, and the beginning of the last quarter of the 2009-2010 school year.
Due to the multiple snowfalls and blizzards, third quarter was shorter. Therefore, teacher workday scheduled for Monday, April 12 has been cancelled to make up for the snow day. The make-up day will be a red day, because the snow day was supposed to be a red day. Freshman Debbie Aderton said, “I’m sad that we don’t have a teacher work day. I would rather have one more day added to the year, because we have a long stretch with no breaks.”
The rest of the schedule for the week will not change, even though the next day is a red day as well. Collaboration will still be held on Wednesday, April 14. Report cards will be handed out during R7 on Friday. “It was a rough quarter,” said sophomore Carolyn Hartley, reflecting upon her workload and grades.
The upcoming fourth quarter will be extended to the end of the week on June 25. This is opposed to its original closing date on June 22. However, if the state approves the waver that Fairfax County sent, then school could end a day earlier. The quarter will be filled with finals and SOLs. “My goal for next quarter is to ace every final,” said Hartley.
