Students blend Thanksgiving traditions: Vietnam
The turkey and mashed potatoes arent the only thing Senior Christina Le enjoys on Thanksgiving, she loves having family ove as well. Since Thanksgiving is not only celebrated in the United States, but in other cultues and coutries as well Senior, Christina Le was born in New York but her family is from originally from Vietnam, and they celebrate Thanksgiving just like most people in the United States do; with loads of food and family over.
“Thanksgiving is a holiday I celebrate with my entire family and friends as a way to show how much we appreciate eachother,” Le said. “Every year on Thanksgiving we have turkey, mashed potatoes, and we also incorporate some vietnamese dishes.”
With the busy schedule Le follows in school, she rarely gets to see her entire family whereas on Thanksgiving she gets to see everyone in a large setting all at once. Le says that since Thanksgiving is not a religous holiday, it’s a great way to spend time with your family and Thanksgiving serves as a great way to integrate ones own tradition and cultures into the American culture.
“We celebrate the holiday to the fullest and love getting both the American and Vietnamese culture into one day.” Le said.
