Life is different from place to place. I grew up in Iraq, lived in
Syria, and then came here to the U.S.A. I have made many changes.
Everything is different here from Syria, from the school, the
language, to the weather.
There are many differences between the school here and where I lived.
When you go to school here, you move from one place to another. In
Syria, the students stay in the same classroom all day. Here you have
a free ride to school, a free lunch, and libraries. In Syria you can’t
change your class or your teacher. Also the class time here is longer
than in Syria.
The language here is very different from my language. My family and I
speak Arabic. But the Arabic language changes from country to country.
In my language, I write from right to left, but in English, we write
left to right. The Arabic language has many letters that are not the
same as in English. Also, there are many types of the Arabic language.
The classical Arabic helps me communicate with different people from
different Arab countries.
However the weather here in the winter is colder than in Syria. In
Syria, the snow is just in the northern states. It’s cold in other
states but there is not as much snow in those areas. Here, many areas
have a lot of snow.
Although I miss my friends and family in the both countries, being
here in America is like a dream come true. Despite all the changes in
the school, language and the weather, I’m happy now, I am able to live
a better life and make new friends.
