Heritage Night is one of the most anticipated events of the year. It is an opportunity for all of the diverse cultures at Annandale to show off their rich heritage. Led by ESOL teacher Georgiana Tomisato, the night will have a variety of performances from Egyptian belly dancing to Korean martial arts. Heritage Night is on Friday, March 11, and will begin at 7 p.m.
VIETNAMESE FAN DANCE

What are you performing at the Heritage Night?
We are presenting the fan dance.
Why is it important that you express your heritage?
Because I want to show people the beauty of my country.
How much have you rehearsed for this?
We practice three or four days a week after school.

It’s a common dance. It’s (from) a Northern part (of India).
Why is it important to express your hertiage?
Because we can promote our country and show our culture. It’s a great thing to show our culture.
Do you encourage others to express their heritage?
I will definitely encourage everyone and it’s a good thing. It’s a great thing to promote you country and it’s a great way to come forward.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I am looking forward to a great performance and I hope we do our best. It should be rocking!

Why is it important to express your heritage?
Because I think it’s important for everyone to express their heritage because (they can) know the other side of Egypt other than the Pharohs and pyramids.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I did it last year and it was fun and people actually noticed me and my culture. Some people even asked me to come back to heritage night this year.
KOREAN MARTIAL ARTS

What are you representing?
I’m representing the martial arts that come from Korea, although I’m not from there.
Why is it important to express your heritage?
It’s good to show what you have and what your family is like.
Expressing your heritage is like sharing your origins.
What are you looking forward to the most?
I’ve done this in freshman year and this is my second year. I want to show what I can do and what the martial arts is.
