Southeast Asian Student Association (SEASA)
Founded by: junior Zahra Nofrisal and junior Jyzel Raquepo
Q. Why did you create this club?
A. “We noticed that there are many cultural clubs centered around Asian countries like VSA and KSA, but there was a lack of representation for the minorities in Southeast Asian countries.”
Q. When do you typically meet?
A. “We plan to have after-schools meetings one to two times each month.”
Q. What do you hope for the future?
A. “That the club will be able to be a place for students with Southeast Asian heritage to come together to celebrate their culture in a fun way.”
Q. What activities do you do?
A. “We plan to find opportunities within the Southeast Asian community to volunteer. We know that the embassies in D.C. often have events and we are working on signing up to volunteer there.”
Q. Who should get involved?
A. “We welcome any students who are interested in learning more about the underrepresented cultures in Southeast Asia and celebrating them.”
ATOMS Biology Organization
Founded by: junior Timothy Bennett and junior Samanta Iglesias
Q. Why did you create this club?
A. “We realized how many people were genuinely interested in pursuing biology as a career.”
Q. When do you typically meet?
A. “We will be meeting every month and will be providing at least one volunteer opportunity per month.”
Q. What do you hope for the future?
A. “We hope to reach out to the greater Annandale community and benefit its students. We hope to provide students with opportunities and hands on experience within the field of biology, medicine, and ecology.”
Q. What activities do you do?
A. “We are planning lake cleanups, medical and environmental volunteer opportunities, career panels, science fair help, field trips, medical workshops, and many more college and career preparatory opportunities.”
Q. Who should get involved?
A. “We invite all students to our club but we are focusing on students wanting a professional career in biology. People should join our club if they are interested in biology, need help in their classes, or want to have fun.”
