Why this election is a joke
You don’t have to be passionate or extremely educated about politics to realize that this year’s election isn’t going as smoothly as some of us had hoped. It has actually taken a turn for the worse, or in other words, a joke.
With Trump’s many outbursts and insults towards Hillary, as well as Hillary’s many slanders and bad publicity against Trump, it has surely made this year’s presidential election quite memorable and somewhat entertaining to watch.
Presidential speeches are meant to inspire, innovate and make people feel like once a certain president candidate is elected that they will make a change for the better. So far, both leading candidates have announced their opinions and what they will do to make the U.S better, but many can say that they have a bad outlook on both of them.
From the start, Donald Trump has showed us all how immature he can be by his many thought provoking tweets and public speeches, which have lead to his notorious reputation. As well as Hillary Clinton, who hasn’t had the best reputation herself, due to her FBI investigation and things she has said in the past that she now wishes she could take back.
In an ideal world, we would have presidential candidates who would be more than willing to address global issues, gun control, Health policy issues, poverty, ect and would be of everyone’s interest and benefit. So far both leading candidates haven’t been doing their best to provide us with much insight or their stance of untouched issues that have yet to be discussed in the mere future.
Recently Trump Junior tweeted something offensive towards Syrian refugees and Donald Trump fully supported him. Trump Junior made a comparison between skittles and Syrian refugee which outraged many on twitter.
It’s no surprised that he backed up his son due to his other many other public speeches and tweets.
According to the Huffington Post, Trump has nicknamed Clinton, “Crooked Hillary” and even called her “the devil” at one point. It’s not like Hillary hasn’t called out Trump, but that’s besides the point.
From a young age we are taught that name calling is bad, but we still do it and that’s okay. However, seeing politicians say it to each other is quite odd and childish in their part. Presidential elections are always bound to start a stir and become a very competitive competition, but presidential candidates should be aware that there’ a fine line between defending yourself and making yourself seem immature.
People are concerned about our presidential candidates and it’s understandable that they are. The thought of choosing and electing the wrong candidate is quite frightening. Sure, the President doesn’t have all the power, but they are still someone we depend on certain issues. We should take this kind of matter seriously, especially when we depend on this person to develop federal policies, enforce federal laws, appoint federal officials and much more.
The phrase, “If Donald Trump becomes President, I’m moving to Canada” has become a common joke exchanged by pals. Frankly, most of us don’t have the money to go out and move countries in a snap of a finger, but that’s not really the point.
If you ask anyone, who doesn’t know much about politics, someone who doesn’t keep track of news, let alone keep track this year’s election, they’d probably still know and be able to tell you who Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are. They’ll either bash on Trump or claim hillary to be a fraud, probably both.
So much attention is being dragged towards Trump and Clinton that some people are forgetting our other presidential candidates.
American citizens often forget how important it is to vote and think that their vote won’t matter or make a difference and/or feel like all hope is lost due to our two leading candidates. As students, most of us can’t even vote yet and are consumed by social media and friends. However if you currently can vote then don’t let the media and peer pressure consume you and do some investigating so you can make conclusions for yourself, even though if this year’s election seems like a joke.
