A glance into the NAACP
The mission of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is to “ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.”
The NAACP fights to have a correct and fair image of African- Americans in Hollywood. It also hosts Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) to encourage the success of African Americans.
“The NAACP has always focused on civil rights and continues to do that and has been effective since the time of its inception in terms of securing and protecting African American civil rights,” social studies teacher Kathlyn Berry said.
The NAACP also actively fights court cases it sees as pertaining to Civil Rights, such as African American voting rights, equal opportunity in low income housing, and Affirmative Action cases.
