Our next issue will focus on gun control. As a preview of the content that you will be able to peruse when we return from Spring Break, below is an interview with senior Paige Britton, who enjoys going to the shooting range with family and friends.
Q: Why do you enjoy going to the range?
A: It is a fun experience. It is a good skill to have, and it often serves as a social activity.
Q: Is there a process before you can start shooting?
A: When I get to the range, I have to first take a test about safety and my knowledge on guns and show them my ID. There are a lot of safety rules you have to follow. Once I pass the test then I am allowed to shoot.
Q: What sort of safety measures do you see on the range?
A: The range provides safety eye wear and headphones to mute the gunshot sound. You can either bring your own guns or use theirs. I use rifles, handguns, and shotguns. They set up targets and allow you to set the distance you want to shoot from.
Q: What is your overall impression of going to shoot on the range?
A: Overall, its a great experience and an important skill to learn. The first time I handled a gun it was a bit scary just because I knew I had to be very cautious. I still know how cautious I have to be, but I feel so much more comfortable.
