Here in The A-Blast as we are gearing up for deadline week, I thought I would give a preview of some statistics that will be used in the In-Depth spread! We will be covering the election, and I will be writing about campaign finance.
I learned some startling things in the process of writing my article. Here are some statistics about the amount of money poured into this year’s campaign that might frighten you as well from The Washington Post:
• Barack Obama’s campaign has spent $612 million, as of now, in this year’s campaign
• Mitt Romney’s campaign has spent $534 million in the same amount of time
• Super PACs associated with the Republican Party have raised $145 million
• Super PACs associated with the Democratic Party have raised $44 million
• Out of the top 15 contributors to this year’s campaign efforts (all of whom contributed to super PACs), 10 have done so in favor of Romney, and 5 in favor of Obama
• The largest contributor to super PACs has been Bob Perry, who contributed $15,250,000 to a super PAC campaigning in favor of Romney
