School has started, and the leaves will soon begin to turn colors. Among many things, such as Halloween and Thanksgiving, this also means that it is almost Election Day! Tuesday, Nov. 6 will be the day that changed America’s future for at least the next four years. We here at The A-Blast thought we might compile some information about voting trends among youth. These fun facts are brought to you by the statistics page of the Young Democrats of America:
• Approximately 46 million 18-29 year olds are eligible to vote in 2012.
• By 2015, this generation will make up one-third of the electorate.
• Voters ages 18-29 were 24 percent of the electorate in 2011.
• 34 percent of Millennials identify as non-white, making them the most diverse generation in American history. Young Latinos account for the largest percentage of the population boom.
• In 2008, 36% of youth who did not attend college voted versus 62 percent of youth who did.
• 8 percent more young women voted than young men in 2008.
