Living in the 21st century, religions has always served as the guiding light into the way we view the world.
For me, Islam has played a major role in who I am and how I portray myself to society. In Islam there are five tenants that guide faith, and many of those tenants are practiced on an everyday basis from school activities to my responsibilities in the community. As my senior year comes to a close, I have realized that Islam has a played a fundamental part in the accomplishments of my high school career.
Islam has always placed high importance on community involvement and helping others, and because of that I see myself being involved in school functions from pep rallies to dedicating approximately 200 hours at Inova Alexandria hospital. It has also taught me a lot about friendship. Differentiate between those who make you want to be a better person and those who have no respect for your personal values. In turn, these experiences have changed my outlook on the world.
Islam, like many other religions, teaches right from wrong. It has shaped my character in teaching me to always care for others, go the extra mile to help someone in need, and to always remember that I represent the millions of Muslims in the world. My core beliefs on life have been instilled by my religion and by the personal experiences that have tested my faith. As years have pass and human life has evolves, religion will always remain a sacred part of who we are and how we view society.
