After two weeks of having a Twitter account, two followers, one following and three Tweets, I have decided that Twitter is the most bizarre social network out there. I base this opinion on the fact that it is at the same time both completely banal and fascinating.
Most of my time on Twitter is spent cruising through other peoples’ profiles, quickly reading through their Tweets. Every single Tweet that I have sent, all three of them, has been sent with a childish glee. I become extremely excited as I press the button to send the Tweet, to be read by the rest of the world.
Maybe it is just me, but I think that having a Twitter is a sort of shameful thing. I casually mentioned it to a friend, and she laughed at me. Why on earth would I want a Twitter account?
My main reason was very simple, to see what all the fuss is about. There are roughly 175 million people with Twitter accounts. Why is it so popular?
At the moment, I hesitate to get to invested in my Twitter account, because I know that if I do I will spend all my time checking and re-checking it like I do with my cell phone and Facebook. It’s just another addiction that I do not need.
Bottom line: Twitter.com receives a B in my book. It is fast, fun and completely unnecessary.
