Back to Black set to release May 17

Nearing the release of Amy’s Newest Biopic, Back To Black, set to release May 17th, 2024. Now is the perfect time to review the star and her art. Known for her unique fashion, style, attitude. Although her career was short-lived with Winhouse only releasing a total of 2 official studio albums. She had an immense amount of success in the music industry. Forever cementing herself as a Star in the music world.

The Jazz, Soul, and R&B Icon Amy Winehouse released her first official music project in 2003 with the debut album Frank, the 18 songs launching her career. Her distinct fashion at the start of her career was low rise jeans, flats, polos, and tank tops. Embracing the album when it was released being loved by critics and listeners alike, today the album is certified triple platinum. “In my Bed” off of Frank has a distinct beat and back track with drums and guitars taking clear inspiration from R&B music. At the end bringing in a trumpet adding to the power of her voice, and scatting taking clear inspiration from jazz. “Stronger than Me” displays her individual musical style of blending genres together. Showing strength through her music in lyrics and vocals. The song is a call out to her partner, she is tired of her needs not being met making her feel like she’s taking on the masculine role in the relationship.“Cherry” has a more cheery and upbeat tone to the song. Spunding similar to bossanova using acoustic guitars while putting her own spin on it with beats in the background.

Later becoming her fast track to fame, Winehouse released Back to Black in 2006 once again showcasing her unique musical talent. As her music changed so did her style and fashion. Ultimately the drastic change led to the classic image of Amy winehouse most people associate her with. Popular for her Retro Rockabilly style; the big beehive, heavy black eyeliner, bold patterns and layering. Winehouse created this new image for herself being even more successful. Rehab being the ear worm of 2006 and today having immense radio popularity due to its repetitive lyrics and catchy beat. Winning three Grammy awards at the 2008 Grammys for “Rehab” receiving Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.“Love Is A Losing Game” is an extremely slow song for Winehouse as many of her songs take inspiration from R&B and Jazz, often having a faster tempo. This song is more of a slow jazz with softer vocals there is less range in notes as the song follows the same sad tone throughout featuring only a few instruments.

Winehouse’s music utilized many jazz instruments throughout her music like the bass, saxophone, piano, and other wind instruments. Combined with back tracking vocals to amplify her voice and beats. Her talent is Unmatched changing music forever. The unfortunate end to the star left us with tears, but she can never be forgotten as her musical legacy will live on forever.
