“Show Me How”, “Tail Whip”, “I Hope to Be Around” and their other amazing hit singles is what characterizes Men I Trust as the perfect jazz infused, dreamy indie pop band. My honest expectations that I had heading to the concert were very different to what the reality of it was. The Men I Trust concert was held at Echostage on November 15th, I didn’t really think it would be anything too out there since their songs aren’t too upbeat and somewhat quiet. I had a slight feeling it would be a crying session, just because I know how sad the songs can be. I fell victim to my own mentality. However as soon as I got there, it was for sure a life changing moment. The music, the people, their outfits, all of the intricacies of this performance allowed for a magical experience. Being able to just vibe and be around all these people with a music taste that mirrors mine is not something you experience day to day. The experience of meeting a ton of new people with the same concert goer mentality and getting to enjoy Emma’s (the lead singer to Men I Trust) beautifully soft voice, was a perfect momentary escape from the difficulties of the world.
On a completely different note, It was a whole different story for the Jazmin Bean concert… Although I enjoyed Jazmin’s performance (they sound amazing live), I would say there were many factors that downplayed this experience and was not what I expected. I expected an otherworldly experience, just as Jazmin’s vibe gives off, with their vibrant colors and avant-garde fashion. The concert was held at the Miracle theater in D.C which is already a red flag to begin with since it’s such a small space, and the fact there was barely any space to even stand up or anything. Besides my selfish complaints, I think Jazmin is a very talented upcoming artist. Their mixtures of different music genres is one of the things that makes them stand out the most, as their style transcends boundaries that sets them apart from other artists. I also really enjoyed their stage presence. It was just amazing and their voice sounded spectacular live.
