The Icelandic/ Chinese singer Laufey, is bringing jazz back to life again, a genre of music which was thought to be dead with younger generations. Brought up in Washington DC, Laufey’s early life growing up was spent between moving from Reykjavik and D.C. In her youth she was an old soul, with her love for jazz and blues with artistic inspirations like Ella Fitzgerald and what seems to be her biggest inspiration Chet Baker. In “A letter to my 13 year old self” she goes in depth with her struggles growing up how she felt as well as talking about how proud her younger self would be from this success. Her musician life is something passed down from her mother who is a violinist. Laufey has a twin sister Junia who plays the violin but it’s mainly behind the scenes as a creative director and creating album campaigns. Laufey pronounced [ley-vey”] popularizing old time classics such as “I wish you love, I’ve never been in love before, love to keep me warm, ” and her most recent single cover “Misty”. Laufey not only covers, but she has her own hit singles like “Valentine”. The love song poses a contradiction to her self made personality of “never being in love Laufey”. The massive success of her second studio album Bewitched, has every single one of her tour dates being sold out, not to mention her re-sell tickets being higher than expected. Performing with artists such as Beabadoobee with whom she collaborated the song, “a night to remember” which was a highly anticipated and acclaimed collaboration. In my opinion Laufey is one of the greatest this generation is seeing grow, she’s just a girl whos never been so fragile
Never been in Love before Laufey
