I will always love you…Undwelling on Elvis’s mind Priscilla, the only woman he ever loved. Priscilla the film by Sofia Coppola is one of the best films we’ve gotten this whole year. This film strives to show us what Elvis and Priscilla Presley’s relationship through the years was like. Starts with Priscilla Bouvier{ her maiden last name} and her family who were recently stationed in Germany which is the place where she met Presley at one of his house parties. It was an instant attraction from both, which I find kind of bizarre since she was 14 and he was 24… despite this age difference they decided to start a relationship and go on for years and even have a daughter together but all of this would end in 1973, but this is all I’m going to spoil. In my own words, this is a perfect cinematic work of art, it captures everything through Priscilla’s eyes. This wasn’t just another biopic, there is so much art that captured a lot of details from her makeup to hair and clothing that was all spot on. This film had an extraordinary soundtrack with artists such as Brenda Lee, The Ronettes and Dolly Parton just to name a few. There’s so many mixed reviews on this film, some people being upset due to the fact there wasn’t a lot of Elvis which I just think is absurd since the film’s title is quite literally Priscilla.
But there are also a ton of positive reviews such as the one from Senior student Juliana Flores. “Their opinion was coming from someone who didn’t know anything about Elvis or Priscilla, besides Elvis being a music icon, I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself captivated by the way the Priscilla story was told in this film, it felt raw and personal, visually captivating, and overall a beautiful cinematic experience,” she said. “The story was told through her perspective; of the relationship and experience she had with Elvis from the very beginning when she met Elvis to the end when she left him.”
