Kanye West documentary “Jeen-Yuhs” releases on Netflix
The long awaited three part documentary of one of the greatest artists and producers Kanye West released on Feb.16. The first part of the documentary starts off with Kanye and a couple of friends and colleagues in the Dominican Republic in the year 2020. The three part documentary is about Kanye’s early life as a growing producer that would provide beats for people and a hidden gem artist in which people and some record labels did not take serious in his early “rapper” stage. Filmmakers Clarence Simmons or also known as “Coodie” and Chike Ozah or “Chike” document the beginning stages of Kanye’s career and are excited to see the talent and promising future that Kanye has ahead.
Mostly known as a Chicago producer, Kanye has made countless numbers of beats for many artists which include Pharrell Williams and Hip-Hop legend Jay-Z who is the owner of Roc nation. Jay Z’s albums like The BluePrint and The Black Album had tracks that were produced by Kanye. With promising beats and productions that Ye made for Jay-Z and other artists, he thought he could land a deal with record labels to become an artist and to make a name for himself. Labels like Roc-A-Fella had given him chances to prove himself in front of some employees, in which Kanye did and played one of his tracks “All falls down” and the employees did not pay attention to a masterpiece in the making and just laughed it off which brought pain to Kanye but still continued his quest of landing a deal with a record label. The labels pointed out to Kanye that he needed to have more “street” in his music and in himself.
In today’s day Kanye has made albums that are about the spiritual parts of life and others which provide a small insight into his journey. His latest album Donda showed a glimpse of his struggles and challenges he’s gone through and still going through in order to be considered the greatest artist of all time.
Artists that worked with Kanye tried getting their record labels to sign Kanye and to trust the potential that he has, which the record labels once again refused to do. Kanye had left Chicago and his mother Donda West to go to New York in order to pursue his dreams of getting signed by a label. Kanye is able to land a deal after months and years of working on his craft, Roc-A-Fella records signed him, although being signed, Roc-A-Fella wanted Kanye to be a producer first and to not work much on his rapping. With Jay-Z working on The BluePrint 2 , Kanye saw an opportunity to get Roc-A-Fella’s attention by rapping a verse on “The Bounce” which is a track on The BluePrint 2.
Jeen-Yuhs provides a very deep, somewhat emotional look into how Kanye is able to make a name for himself and become a big time artist with two more parts left to the documentary which drop on Feb. 23 and March 2. Donda 2 is supposed to be around the corner after Kanye held a listening party in Miami, Florida on Feb 22. The listening party was an experience to listen to the creativity and the craft Ye has put on this album even with personal problems going on with him and his family.
