A look into Dawn FM

The Weeknd dropping a radio themed album early into the year was a major surprise for many of his fans. On Jan. 7, the Canadian artist Aebl Tesfaye, famously known as The Weeknd released his highly anticipated album Dawn FM which is his fifth studio album. Dawn FM featured an insight of The Weeknd’s creativity and versatility inserted in the album.

Dawn FM sold over 150,000 album units in the U.S. during its first week of release and gained 60 million streams on Spotify. Dawn FM was not expected to gain many streams and album sales due to the competition it had with hip-hop artist Gunna debuting DS4EVER the same day as Dawn FM.

A couple of artists were featured on the album such as Tyler The Creator who appears on the eighth track “Here We Go… Again” and hip-hop artist Lil Wayne who is featured on the fourteenth track “I Heard You Married.” The album used the help of a variety of producers like Calvin Harris and supergroup Swedish House Mafia who produced The Weeknd’s song “Moth To The Flame.”

Dawn FM is filled with 16 tracks and has a listening time of 52 minutes which is pretty short for a 16 track album. The Weeknd also released an alternative version of the album on Apple Music with seven extra tracks and videos, and it has a run time of one hour and 30 minutes.
