Drake releases highly anticipated album 'Certified Lover Boy'

On the morning of Friday September 3,  Canadian rapper Drake released one of his most anticipated albums: “Certified Lover Boy” which is his sixth studio album. “Certified Lover Boy” has sold over 600k units of album sales in its first week of release which surpasses “Donda,” Kanye West’s tenth studio album that made over 400k album sales in its first week of release. With over 600k units sold, “Certified Lover Boy” has had one of the biggest releases so far in 2021. Social media and hip-hop fans were very excited for the album release after another Drake and Kanye beef sparked. Many fans anticipated a couple of verses from Drake to be aimed at West.

In the first 24 hours of debuting, “Certified Lover Boy” had over 150 million streams on both Spotify and Apple Music, which broke records for both streaming platforms. Drake has had many albums break records, but his latest is also on pace to have 650-700 million streams in its first week of debuting which is the second most since his previous album “Scorpion”, which was released in 2018 and had over 900 million streams in its first week.

Drake had many features on “Certified Lover Boy” that caused his album to gain even more popularity and 21 of his songs were top 20 in the top 100 charts of most played for 6 days. Keep in mind, “Certified Lover Boy” consisted of only 21 songs and it was very surprising to see Drakes whole album take up spots 1-21 on the top 100 charts in the United States. Some of the artists featured in Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” were Lil Baby, JAY-Z, Future, Young Thug, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Kid Cudi, GIVĒON, Lil Durk, Tems, and Ty Dolla $ign.

The most popular songs off the album were “Way 2 Sexy” which features Young Thug and Future, and a guest appearance in the video from NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard. The song is a bit of an increase in self-esteem and a feel/look good type of song. Other popular songs on the album include “Girls want Girls” which features Lil Baby, “Champagne Poetry” which is the main intro to “Certified Lover Boy,” “Fair Trade,” where Travis Scott is featured in and “Love All” where hip-hop legend JAY-Z was featured in and had a verse in which he threatens and addresses a former friend of his.

“Certified Lover Boy” has an estimated one hour and twenty-six minute listening time and is currently available on all streaming platforms.
