The People’s Choice Awards kicks off award season

The 2016 award season was kicked off with the People’s Choice awards on CBS Jan. 7. Hosted by Jane Lynch, the People’s Choice Awards was filled with many unexpected moments, like wardrobe malfunctions, stage crashers and emotional tributes.

The night started off with a very large opening number, where Jane Lynch made her own rendition of the song “Shut up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. However, it didn’t take Lynch long to start making fun of celebrities like Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe’s debacle.

As the night went on, Vin Diesel touched many hearts when he got choked up accepting his award for Favorite Action Movie and Favorite Film.

“When we didn’t want to come back to film when the tragedy was too heavy, it was the love of everyone combined that saw us through to the end,” Diesel said.

He then closed his speech by singing “See You Again” by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa.

Then the night took an unexpected turn, when a stage crasher went up on stage, while the Talk was accepting their award for Favorite Daytime TV Hosting. After giving a shout out to rapper Kevin Gates, Sharon Osbourne kicked him after Sheryl Underwood, who confused Kanye West’s stage-crashing in 2006 with Steve Harvey’s Miss Universe crowning mistake, yelling “You ain’t gonna pull no Steve Harvey up in here.”

“It was really unexpected; I wasn’t expecting him to go up on stage,” junior Biruktawit Alemu said.
