Logic impresses with new album
Sir Robert Bryson Hall II, more popularly known as Logic, recently released his second album The Incredible True Story on Nov. 13
The Incredible True Story is very significant to Logic’s career because it can help cement his name into the industry forever. So this poses the question, did Logic succeed in creating an amazing sophomore album?
Yes he did, and he did it in a way many never saw coming. A photo released on Logic’s Twitter account says “The Incredible True Story is an Audio Cinematic experience that mainly takes place in Sonic form about a space pilot (Thomas) and his partner (Kai) a man of infantry who, from time to time, interacts with the ship’s AI component: Thalia, Designed by C-Corp” (Thalia makes her return after Logic’s first album). This lays out the overall background of where this album is taking you into.
The overall setting of the album is two friends on the search for the planet “Paradise,” since life on earth is nonexistent as people have destroyed it. As Thomas is picking up Kai from the Babel Space Station, the two strike a conversation about how Thomas was listening to Logic’s first album (Under Pressure) on the way.
Thomas decides to cue the new project as they venture off in their search. This begins the playthrough of the 18-track album.
The album itself is filled with mixed emotions ranging from joy to sadness to discovery. What listeners have to know while playing this album is that it is very different from Under Pressure. In fact, it is hard to compare the two at all, and that’s good.
This album deserves it’s own separate appreciation. Under Pressure tells the story of Logic’s life growing up, and The Incredible True Story focuses more on his life now as well as the plot mentioned earlier.
Logic still shows off his lyricism in tracks like “Stainless,” “Lord Willin’” and “Run It,” but there’s more of a sentimental feeling to a lot of tracks on this album. He still manages to throw in a mix of tone to appeal to every fan’s likings. Tracks like “I Am The Greatest” are more exciting and hyped, and tracks like “Never Been” have a very strong message and an emotional tone.
It is an amazing album overall, but it also has a lot of meaning behind it that is great to be aware of. Logic says that “Fade Away” is about accepting death and the fact that one day we will all go so it’s best to do something for ourselves before we die.
Logic stated on Twitter that “City of Stars” is a break up song with hip-hop, written to be perceived as a person so the listener can embrace it however they want and finally not caring about what that person thinks or allowing their opinion to drag down his artistic integrity or how he creates his music. He says that it’s a release of all the horrible things he thinks about it in order to completely let himself be free. It is a so long to “how a person should make hip-hop” and a greeting to “finally embracing and focusing on genre-less music.”
The album also has a bunch of small but interesting features like Big Sean’s skit at the end of Fade Away and his wife’s backgrounds throughout the tracks.
Logic produced this album for not only the fans, but for himself. It can be found in the lyrics, the beats and every single aspect of the album. This album gives him a unique style that sets him apart from other artists.
It is one of his best projects and the best way to describe it is beautiful. It tells stories in the tracks, follows a plot, has humor in the skits, has a large variety of instruments and angelic harmonies, has amazing transitions between songs, has an amazing intro and outro, it is his masterpiece, he literally produced on ten of the eighteen tracks excluding skits. This album brings a whole new level of creativity to the game that hasn’t been seen in awhile. You can purchase the album online or in stores. Lastly, and most important of all, peace, love and positivity!
