Mean girls, the sensational film from 2004 which was later turned into a musical and now is reaching to AHS.
The plot of the movie centers around Cady Heron, a girl from Africa who moved to a small town in Illinois. At her new high school, she quickly befriends outcast Janis Ian and Damian Leigh, who teach her about the school’s social cliques. The two warn her to steer clear of the ‘Plastics,’ a notorious and envied clique with three members: Regina George, Gretchen Wieners, and Karen Smith.
Surprisingly enough, later that day, the ‘Plastics’ decided to recruit Cady. After telling her new friends Janis and Damian, the three of them enacted a plan to get revenge on the ‘Plastics’: befriend them and collect information to ‘end Regina’s reign’.
“You [the viewer] follow Cady and see how she navigates her life and see how she fits with the ‘Plastics’ and realizes it’s not for her,” said sophomore Lucas Torres, a Production Assistant in the musical.
“I hope the audience enjoys following along with her.”
The cast members have been assembling this musical for around 4 months and although there have been some challenges, they’re excited to share their production with the Annandale community.
“I’m really excited to present a lot of the vocals. I feel like all of our leads, they’re really impressive singers. I think it’ll be very cool for people to be able to see that because a lot of our cast are people who haven’t really done theater before,” said sophomore Sophia Demers, who plays Mrs. George and Regina George understudy.
“So it’ll be a good chance for them to like, sort of showcase their skills.”
For the cast, creating the musical was a session of collaboration and friendship.
“It’s been a lot of fun to hang out with friends after school. Although it can be exhausting at times, I’m just glad that the cast is so much fun that we’ve been able to pull through it,” said sophomore Eshan Van Heerden, who plays Damian.
