Artist Spotlight: sophomore Abbie Lee
When did you start doing art?
“I’ve been drawing since I was very young since I
would watch my older sister draw all the time.”
What is your favorite piece of art you created?
“Probably an oil pastel piece that I made called
‘Dream Girl.”
How would you describe your style of work?
“I would probably say my art is surrealistic but I
also enjoy doing realism. “
What are your favorite mediums to use?
“I recently really got into working with watercolors
and oil pastels but I also love just using a
mechanical pencil.”
What does being an artist mean to you?
“To me it means getting to express things that are
hard for me to say and getting to show what goes on
in my head.”
What is your artistic process?
“I usually start with listening to music and then
sketching whatever comes to mind and then I
choose the one I like the most and start creating a
final product.”
Where do you find inspiration for your work? I find
“inspiration from people I meet in real life, music, and also
lately I’ve been inspired by the artist Aya Takano.”
Do you have any advice for other young artists?
“I would say to not get stuck in just one style, for a long
time my mindset was that “good” art was hyper realistic,
thinking like that gave me artist’s block for months and
discouraged me to create anything.”
